"Serious Game" Group Practices German, Explores History Through Video Game

Summary
The Serious Game Night Group, organized by graduate student Ellen McPherson, is currently playing and exploring the game Through the Darkest of Times.
The game allows players to experience life in Berlin during the end of the Weimar Republic and the National Socialist take over, and players strategize how best to combat the rising darkness and help the resistance without getting caught by the Nazis.
The video game is played in German, and anyone with two semesters or more of German is welcome to join the group.
The next meeting will be held March 12 at 5 p.m. in the World Languages Digital Humanities Studio, J.B. Hunt 207.
In addition to playing the game, the group will hear from Dr. Curtis Maughan, who was at the Cologne Game Lab when the game was developed.
Dr. Maughan will be discussing serious games about history as a form of education and what the pros/cons of that might be as well as the decisions that need to be made when designing that type of game.
