The flagship event of the Reacting Consortium, the Annual Institute, returns live and in person to Barnard College from June 6-9, 2024! This gathering promises to be an invaluable opportunity to engage with interactive pedagogy and equip educators for the challenges of the modern classroom.
What's New This Year?
This year, participants will be introduced to a variety of new games, including a slate of short games that many faculty members have been eagerly anticipating! Whether you're a seasoned veteran or new to Reacting, there's something for everyone. Additionally, informative working groups and sessions are designed to enhance understanding and implementation of Reacting to the Past methodologies.
Event Options:
Participants have two basic options for the four-day event:
Two Reacting Game Workshops: Engage in two Reacting games in succession. Choose one full-length game for Thursday-Friday, and a second short game in development for Saturday-Sunday.
Reacting Game Workshop and Newbie Workshop: Participate in one full-length Reacting game on Thursday-Friday, followed by a hands-on workshop series tailored for newcomers. Gain insights into game management, assessment strategies, and curricular integration to bolster confidence in implementing Reacting in the classroom.
Game Workshops:
Experience the Reacting pedagogy firsthand through our game workshops. Dive into historical moments, take on unique roles, and engage in dynamic debates to achieve victory objectives. With guidance provided throughout, participants will leave prepared to bring the excitement of Reacting to students
Working Groups & Informational Sessions:
Delve deeper into key topics with our working groups and informational sessions. Explore approaches to AI in the Reacting classroom, strategies for scaffolding primary sources, accessibility considerations, and discussions on race and racism in roleplay. Those with expertise to share or topics they'd like to see covered can reach out to Jenn Worth to contribute to shaping discussions.
