Summary

The U.S. Department of Education is funding a five-year, nearly $8 million study in South Florida to evaluate the impact of gamification on fifth grade science scores. Partnering with Legends of Learning and WestEd, Impact Florida aims to assess game-based science instruction's effectiveness in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Approximately 280 teachers and 6,000 students will participate, funded by a $7.9 million grant. Previous studies have shown positive correlations between using Legends of Learning and improved science test scores. With declining science proficiency rates in Florida, the study seeks to increase student engagement post-COVID and enhance academic performance through interactive, curriculum-aligned gaming experiences.
