Abstract
“This paper focuses on the use of a combination of 3d virtual worlds as a learning tool and the effectiveness of classical memory techniques implemented in thevirtual environment. The whole learning activity targets a biology topic, from theofficial curriculum of Greek public secondary school. Unlike the physical environment, virtual worlds can provide equal learning opportunities for all participants. The use ofspatial mnemonic techniques, such as the loci method, in an artificial environmentcreates equal conditions for memorization, as all participants navigate the same space. In order to achieve a better learning outcome, gamified learning activities werecombined with memorization technique of loci. The evaluation showed that virtualclassroom students outperformed the conventional classroom by 16%.”
