Summary

This article explores the role of interactive input, particularly through computer games, in language acquisition. Building on Stephen Krashen’s theories of comprehensible and compelling input, the author investigates whether interactive text-based games, or hypertext fictions (HFs), enhance French vocabulary and grammar learning. The experiment with 28 Spanish students showed that the HF group outperformed control groups in vocabulary and grammar retention. The HF group also experienced less fatigue and higher motivation, suggesting that interactivity improves engagement and learning. These results support the potential of hypertext fiction as an effective tool for language education, warranting further research.
