Summary

Gen Con, one of the largest tabletop gaming conventions, attracted over 71,000 attendees this year, with a focus on increasing inclusivity. Organizers have created spaces for underrepresented groups, such as a BIPOC lounge and mentorship programs, to foster diversity and support marginalized voices. Historically dominated by white males, the industry is seeing more women and gender nonconforming players, but creators of diverse backgrounds remain underrepresented. Efforts to address negative stereotypes, like the portrayal of Indigenous peoples, and provide grants for diverse participants are ongoing. While progress is being made, organizers acknowledge more work is needed for lasting change.
