What is the Games-Based Learning Virtual Conference?
The Games-Based Learning Virtual Conference (GBLVC) is an annual three day virtual event hosted by the Games-Based Learning Alliance (GBLA) and University XP.
Conference History
The conference debuted for the first time in April 2021 Since then, it has been hosted annually. Every year the Games-Based Learning Virtual Conference has featured various sessions presented by experts in the industry. Last year, topics covered included using games for educational purposes, intellectual property protection in gaming, designing characters for learning, and practical applications of tabletop games in higher education. Presenters emphasized the importance of incorporating games into different fields, such as workplace dynamics, youth engagement in sports, and social-emotional learning.
Conference Purpose
The purpose of the Games-Based Learning Virtual Conference (GBLVC) is to connect academics, educators, designers, researchers, creators, and professionals in a space and time to share best practices using games, gamification, games-based learning, serious games, and applied games for teaching, training, education, and development.
Conference Dates
The conference takes place during the weekend over three (3x) days:
Friday June 7, 2024; Saturday June 8, 2024; and Sunday June 9, 2024

Where will the Games-Based Learning Virtual Conference be held?
The conference is held online and completely virtually using a combination of different digital tools. Those tools included (but are not limited to) Zoom Webinars & Meetings, Mighty Networks, and Thinkific to connect attendees, host networking, and provide and serve conference content.

The Games-Based Learning Virtual Conference (GBLVC) believes in spreading the knowledge of innovators. We believe that innovation is enhanced by a variety of perspectives, and our goal is to create an inclusive, respectful conference environment that invites participation from people of all races, ethnicities, genders, ages, abilities, religions, geographies, nationalities, sexual orientation, and neurodiversity. The conference actively seeks to increase the diversity of our attendees, speakers, and participants through our calls for proposals, other open submission processes, and through dialogue with the larger communities we serve.
Conference Proposal Types
The conference requests that you forward the call for proposals to relevant affinity groups with the message that we are looking for a diverse speaker roster.
Recorded Sessions
This represents a “lecture” type of presentation in which information is shared didactically in a pre-recorded video format.
If accepted, session content should be recorded by the coordinating presenter and submitted to the conference staff for editing, transcription, and upload to the conference platforms.
If accepted, finished presentations should be in recorded length:
Minimum 20 Minutes Long
Maximum 30 Minutes Long
RECORDED SESSIONS can accommodate a minimum of one (1x) presenter and a maximum of four (4x) presenters.
Live Sessions
This represents a live discussion and/or presentation in which several participants engage with each other over the course of the session.
If accepted, the presenters will be scheduled for a live and synchronous session at a predetermined date and time during the conference.
If accepted, finished presentations should be:
Minimum 30 Minutes Long
Maximum 45 Minutes Long
LIVE SESSIONS can accommodate a minimum of two (2x) presenters and a maximum of four (4x) presenters.
Accepted Presenter Complimentary Admission
All accepted sessions come with complimentary conference access for all included presenters of the session.

Proposal Timeline
1) Call for Proposals Open: Sunday, October 15, 2023
2) Proposals Due: Saturday January 6, 2024 by 11:59pm (ET)
3) Proposal Notifications Sent by: Monday, January 22, 2024 by 11:59pm (ET)
4) Proposal Acceptances Due by: Saturday February 3, 2024 by 11:59pm (ET)
5) Recorded Sessions Submissions Due by: Saturday March 9, 2024 by 11:59pm (ET)
Content Disclaimer
By submitting my session proposal I give permission and grant University XP LLC (DBA The Games-Based Learning Virtual Conference) a royalty-free license to use, reproduce and distribute my presentation (including, but not limited to, all handouts; video recordings; audio recordings; chats; questions; and slide decks) in any way in the future, with appropriate attribution to me. I understand that this license does not change the fact that I retain copyright ownership of my session, and does not prohibit me from using my session in any way or from allowing others to use it.
Multiple, different, and distinct session proposals may be submitted by a single coordinating presenter using a separate application for each proposal. However, the Games-Based Learning Alliance and University XP LLC reserves the right to restrict and/or limit conference presentations including the same presenter in an effort to maximize a diversity of voices, speakers, and experiences at the conference.
By submitting your session proposal you also warrant that you possess the legal right and ability to present said content without infringing on the copyright or trademark of other individuals or entities.
