Summary

What if video games served as a vehicle for raising awareness of risks, particularly with regard to Covid-19? This is the project carried out by a team of researchers from Lancaster University in the United Kingdom.

Scientists have indeed read the message from the WHO according to which young people aged between 19 and 25 years experience a lower death rate from the disease and are therefore less respectful of barrier gestures.

To change mentalities, they have therefore developed a serious game as part of a study aimed at determining whether games can help convey public health messages and concretely change behavior.

Called "Point of Contact", this title is clearly inspired by the successful multiplayer game Among Us. Based on cooperation, it represents an open space where participants have tasks to accomplish to increase their economic results.

Gamers must therefore find the right balance between the tasks to be accomplished and compliance with the preventive measures promoted by the British government: washing hands, regularly opening windows, wearing a mask Quarantine is also an option, but it is lowers the economic score.

Scientists specify that if the direct impact is obvious enough, further studies would be needed to measure the consequences of this practice in the long term.

As a reminder, the educational virtues of video games have already been demonstrated.
